A bush is usually a rubber divider that goes between two moving parts and acts as a damper to allow the parts to move smoothly. In the case of an axle bush it offers a cushion between the rear sub frame and body frame. If you're experiencing knocking or a clunking noise when cornering it could well be time for your axle bush to be replaced.
